Working with local colleagues in their regions, they also ensure that regional sites provide up-to-date information and opinion on clinical practice relevant to local healthcare professionals.
Our Editorial Board
Lori Berard RN, CDE
Lori Berard is currently the Nurse Manager at the WRHA Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg Diabetes Research Group, the Diabetes Educator Nurse Clinician at the Wellness Institute Diabetes Wellness Program at the Seven Oaks General Hospital of the WRHA and is a previous Faculty Member of the University of Manitoba Department of Medicine Section of Endocrinology. She has 29 years of experience in the area of diabetes and is a Certified Diabetes Educator. She is actively involved in many research and educational initiatives with numerous presentations and publications.
Lori has been a professional member and major volunteer of the Canadian Diabetes Association for over 25 years. She is the Past Chair of the Diabetes Educator Section; Member of the Steering and Executive Committees for the CDA Clinical Practice Guidelines since 2005 as well as a Chapter Author: Member of the Executive Committee for the Dissemination and Implementation Committee 2013 acting also as the Lead for Self-Management Education Theme: Member National Research Council.
In 2009, she was honored with the Diabetes Educator of the Year Award from the CDA; in 2014 she was the Canadian Diabetes Association Charles H Best Award Recipient and in 2015 received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Diabetes Educator Section of the CDA. In 2016, she received the Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification Board Award of Excellence and Dedication as well as being recognized by the Worldwide Leaders in Health Care for demonstrated leadership and achievement in the field of nursing. Most recently the University of Manitoba medical students nominated her for 2014/2015 Manitoba Medical Student Award for her dedication to teaching specifically in Mentorship.
Jay H Shubrook DO
Jay H Shubrook DO is a Board Certified Family Physician and Diabetologist. He is a Professor in the Primary Care Department at the Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine. He also serves as the Director of Clinical Research and Director of Diabetes Services at this institution. He is the Chair of the Primary Care Advisory Group for the American Diabetes Association. He strives to better prepare primary care providers to provide exceptional care for patients with diabetes. His research interests focus on type 2 diabetes prevention and early intervention.
Carol Wysham MD
Carol Wysham completed her fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Iowa College of Medicine, after which she spent 6 years on the faculty at the University of Minnesota. Since 1992, she has been a clinical endocrinologist at the Rockwood Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology in Spokane, Washington. She is also Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington and has 23 years of experience in Clinical Research, including as investigator for the ACCORD, AIM-HIGH, ADOPT, EMPA-REG, LEADER, and CANVAS studies. She has served as Co-chair and Chair of the Annual Meeting of the Endocrine Society (2014 - 2016) as well as past-chair of the American Diabetes Association’s Professional Practice Committee.
John Wilding DM FRCP
John Wilding leads Clinical Research into Obesity, Diabetes and Endocrinology at the University of Liverpool, UK. He trained in medicine in Southampton and at the Hammersmith Hospital, London, where he also undertook three years laboratory-based research into the neurobiology of obesity and diabetes. He has worked at University Hospital Aintree, Liverpool, since 1996 and as Professor of Medicine since 2005. He leads specialist services for severe obesity at University Hospital Aintree – designated a Centre for Obesity Management by the European Association for the Study of Obesity. He is a Council member of the Royal College of Physicians and chairs the UK National Clinical Research Network Metabolic and Endocrine Speciality Group. He has published over 250 research papers, chapters and review articles related to his clinical and laboratory research interests in the pathophysiology of obesity and type 2 diabetes and evaluation of new treatments.
Sanjay Kalra MBBS, MD, DM
Sanjay Kalra, MD, DM (AIIMS New Delhi), is an endocrinologist based at Bharti Hospital, Karnal, India. Former Executive Editor of the Indian Journal of Endocrinology & Metabolism (IJEM), he is currently Executive Editor of Thyroid Research and Practice (TRP), and Associate Editor of Diabetic Medicine (UK). He has worked as Principal Investigator in over 50 phase 1, 2 and 3 trials. As Vice President of the South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies (SAFES), he works to spread endocrine and diabetes awareness in the region, and beyond.
