Lori Berard, RN, CDE

Lori Berard is currently an international consultant in diabetes and clinical research based in Canada. She was formerly the Nurse Manager at the WRHA Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg Diabetes Research Group, Diabetes Nurse Clinician/Educator at the Wellness Institute Seven Oaks General Hospital and a Faculty Member of the University of Manitoba Department of Medicine Section of Endocrinology. She has 30 years of experience in diabetes and is a Certified Diabetes Educator. She is actively involved in many research and educational initiatives with numerous presentations and publications.

Lori has been a professional member and major volunteer of Diabetes Canada for more than 25 years. She is the Past Chair of the Diabetes Educator Section; Member of the Steering and Executive Committees for the Clinical Practice Guidelines; Chapter Author, Member of the Executive Committee for the Dissemination and Implementation Committee;    Member of the National Research Council.

In 2009, she was honored with the Diabetes Educator of the Year Award from the CDA; in 2014 she was the Canadian Diabetes Association Charles H Best Award Recipient and in 2015 received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Diabetes Educator Section of the CDA. In 2016, she received the Canadian Diabetes Educator Certification Board Award of Excellence and Dedication as well as being recognized by the Worldwide Leaders in Health Care for demonstrated leadership and achievement in the field of nursing. Notably, the University of Manitoba medical students nominated her for 2014/2015 Manitoba Medical Student Award for her dedication to teaching specifically in mentorship. She is the Diabetes Canada Manitoba Division Best Banting Honoree 2017 and the recipient of the Diabetes Canada Professional Section Public Service Award 2017.

John Wilding, DM, FRCP

John Wilding leads Clinical Research into Obesity, Diabetes and Endocrinology at the University of Liverpool, UK. He trained in medicine in Southampton and at the Hammersmith Hospital, London, where he also undertook three years laboratory-based research into the neurobiology of obesity and diabetes. He has worked at University Hospital Aintree, Liverpool, since 1996 and as Professor of Medicine since 2005. He leads specialist services for severe obesity at University Hospital Aintree – designated a Centre for Obesity Management by the European Association for the Study of Obesity. He is a Council member of the Royal College of Physicians and chairs the UK National Clinical Research Network Metabolic and Endocrine Speciality Group. He has published over 250 research papers, chapters and review articles related to his clinical and laboratory research interests in the pathophysiology of obesity and type 2 diabetes and evaluation of new treatments.

Sanjay Kalra, MBBS, MD, DM

Sanjay Kalra is an endocrinologist based at Bharti Hospital, Karnal, India. An avid researcher, writer and busy clinician, he serves as President, Endocrine Society of India (ESI), Vice President of the South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies (SAFES), and Education Editor at the International Society of Endocrinology (ISE). Along with these and other responsibilities, he works to spread endocrine and diabetes awareness across the world. In his spare time, he indulges in his favorite hobby, the Punjabi folk dance bhangra.
