Alison Barnes

Alison Barnes is a Registered Dietitian and Senior Research Associate at Newcastle University on two high profile Diabetes UK funded studies investigating remission of type 2 diabetes: the DIabetes Remission Clinical Trial (DiRECT), and ReTUNE, which is evaluating the effectiveness of weight for Type 2 diabetes remission at lower BMIs.  

Alison has specialized in diabetes and weight management dietetics since 2009. In addition to her research post Alison is a graduate of the Diabetes UK Clinical Champions Programme and has just taken up post as a lecturer in Human Nutrition and the new Dietetics course starting in September 2020 at Newcastle University. She is a member of the judging panel for the National Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes Awards and has spoken at numerous national conferences about DiRECT and Diabetes Remission, and most recently at the American Diabetes Association Annual Scientific Sessions in June 2020.
