Adie Viljoen

Consultant Chemical Pathologist Metabolic Physician at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage and Honorary Consultant at Cambridge Universities NHS Trust 

Dr Viljoen completed his medical and postgraduate medical training in South Africa and has worked as a specialist in the UK for more than 15 years. He is a Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the University of Hertfordshire and has supervised several postgraduate students.

He conducts multiple phase II, III and IV clinical trials in diabetes, obesity and lipids. He’s also served as the UK Chief Investigator for several studies and been a member of various steering committees.

Dr Viljoen has authored more than 150 papers in peer reviewed medical journals, as well as being the author of several chapters in medical textbooks including the Oxford Textbook in Diabetes and a book on cardiovascular risk. He serves on the Editorial board of two PubMed indexed journals: International Journal of Clinical Practice and Current Vascular Pharmacology. He’s presented at several national and international diabetes and cardiology conferences.

Dr Viljoen has served as a topic expert for various reviews by the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and received several awards for clinical excellence from the UK National Health Service.
