17. Hypoglycaemia Case Study
Publisher: Springer London
Abstract
The case of a 38-year-old woman with Addison’s disease, diabetes and recurrent severe hypoglycaemia is described. After some initial diagnostic uncertainty, it was confirmed that she had autoimmune diabetes. She subsequently developed recurrent episodes of severe hypoglycaemia with few or no warning symptoms. The options for managing this scenario are discussed, including increased blood glucose monitoring, carbohydrate counting, education on insulin adjustment, insulin pump therapy and islet cell transplants.
