Amar Ali

GP Partner at Oakenhurst Medical Practice, GPSI Diabetes Blackburn and East Lancashire, Central Blackburn and Clinical Lead for the Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDPP)

Dr Ali trained at and graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2010, completing his further GP training in east Lancashire. He is the current CCG Diabetes Lead, GP with specialist interest in diabetes at the local community service and serves the local federation (Blackburn with Darwen in Lancashire) as GP quality lead. ​He is also working as clinical lead for the Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme.

Dr Ali initially developed an interest in diabetes as a registrar and upon qualifying. To further his interest in this area he took up a post as co-Investigator at a Diabetes Research Unit at a local hospital.

He has an active interest in research and education, particularly in diabetes, and believes education empowers both patients and healthcare professionals alike. Other interests include, emerging therapies, obesity and current diabetes research.
