medwireNews: The FDA has approved Metronic’s MiniMed 770G hybrid closed-loop insulin delivery system for use in children between the ages of 2 and 6 years who have type 1 diabetes.

Unlike the 670G, the 770G system is Bluetooth-enabled. This smartphone connectivity allows caregivers to remotely monitor children’s glucose levels.

It is the first artificial pancreas system to be approved for use in very young children, and the FDA has mandated a post-marketing study to determine the system’s real-world performance in this age group.
