Primary prevention of gestational diabetes mellitus through nutritional factors: a systematic review

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), defined as any degree of glucose intolerance with onset during pregnancy, is increasing worldwide, and is associated with adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. This systematic review assesses the existing literature on primary prevention of GDM through diet and supplements, and concludes that while nutritional factors may have some benefit, higher quality evidence is required in order to draw firm conclusions on the best intervention for preventing GDM.
